{"id":1332,"date":"2018-01-08T11:51:26","date_gmt":"2018-01-08T01:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.forkword.com\/plog\/?p=1332"},"modified":"2018-02-07T11:36:03","modified_gmt":"2018-02-07T01:36:03","slug":"collected-works-ken-taylor-and-general-happenings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.forkword.com\/plog\/2018\/01\/08\/collected-works-ken-taylor-and-general-happenings\/","title":{"rendered":"Collected Works, Ken Taylor and general Happenings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My holiday readings are scattered about, and it&#8217;s hard not to be distracted with the goings on in <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2018\/01\/06\/politics\/trump-genius-tweet-analysis\/index.html\">GENIUSVILLE<\/a> (which stupidity threatens to engulf us all), but one of the more gentle amusements has been cruising thru the pages of Kris Hemensley&#8217;s blog &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/collectedworks-poetryideas.blogspot.com.au\/\">Collected works<\/a>&#8216; namesake of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tellurianresearchpress.com.au\/blog\/archives\/12-2017\">precious bookshop\/hive\/dive<\/a> at Melbourne&#8217;s core, which I always visit when I am (alas, only occasionally) there, and whose meanderings took me this time to again think on Ken Taylor. I bought Ken&#8217;s collection <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetrylibrary.edu.au\/poems-book\/at-valentines-0748000\">At Valentines<\/a><\/em>\u00a0when I was in Kris&#8217; shop a couple of years back, again this was after I had been reading his blog; after\u00a0 Ken died, not too many years ago. blog<\/a>, which relates how the poems were read all night long out on the rocky island, cut off by the high tide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au\/things-to-do\/walking-tracks\/mimosa-rocks-walking-track\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1336\" src=\"http:\/\/www.forkword.com\/plog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/aragunnu-lookout-hero-320x208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.forkword.com\/plog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/aragunnu-lookout-hero-320x208.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.forkword.com\/plog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/aragunnu-lookout-hero-500x325.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.forkword.com\/plog\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/aragunnu-lookout-hero.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Reading about this excites me and puts me in a mood to find those who were there and regather everyone still alive to recreate the event at the Aragunnu rocks one night (pictured &#8211; and isn&#8217;t the name similar to Arunagiri &#8211; aka Arunachala &#8220;red mountain&#8221; in Sanskrit &#8211; abode of saints in distant Tamil Nadu)\u2014it appeals to all my instincts to magic and the aura of Places mixd with the raw expression of poems.\u00a0 For some time i have thought about holding a similar thing, nearer to home, a poem reading whilst doing a meditative walk down the Burra Creek (that very slow walk like at Zen retreats).<\/p>\n<p>I have Andrew Galan&#8217;s new collection\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bareknucklebooks.com\/andrew-galan\/\">For all the Veronicas (The Dog Who Staid<\/a>)<\/em> which won the ACT writing and publishing awards.\u00a0 Reading these poems, i notice a twisty relationship to language, a complexity, a tendency to list, a liking for sciency things, and i enjoy such wordplay as:<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t dance me<br \/>\non and on<br \/>\ndance me<br \/>\non an ion engine<\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>against the torsion<br \/>\ndance me<\/p>\n<p>(from <em>The Different Future of Leonard Cohen<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Contacting Andrew thru twitter i met him at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BADSLAMNOBISCUIT\/\">BADSLAMNOBISCUIT<\/a> which i had, to be honest, avoided slightly till now as the slam scene isn&#8217;t really my biscuit.\u00a0 Also\u2014children factors\u2014so even now writing this blog post, even during the allotted Sunday afternoon free hour of the week, i have to break to play &#8216;shop&#8217;, arbitrate tense situations, suddenly cook dinner, etc. And they are so lovely and entertaining. But going out is rare.
